My Dad?
by Jackie (Founder member)
My friend Sharon and I used to get together with my cousin Lynne on a Friday night. We would call it our ‘spiritual night’ as it was always our favourite topic.
One Friday evening a few weeks after my father had died we were driving over to see my cousin. As I drove we chatted about general things that had been happening during that day, all of which were totally unrelated to anything spiritual.
I turned the car into Lynne’s road and started to slow down as we approached her house. There was then a smell of flowers which became so strong that the car seemed over whelmed with the smell of flowers. At the same time I felt my dad’s presence.
I didn’t say anything to Sharon, thinking it was just my imagination. After all I had just lost my dad so it was still an upsetting time for me. Plus I had made my own funeral flower Tribute, so it just seemed to make sense that it was the situation at the time. But taking me by complete surprise with a loud voice Sharon suddenly said “What’s that smell. Have you still got some flowers in here?” Without thinking I replied “Oh it’s just my dad, don’t worry” With that, she opened the car door and almost fell on the path as the car hadn’t quite stopped.
I parked the car, locked the doors, and then we walked across the path to Lynne’s house and rang the door bell. As Lynne opened the door to let us in she said with a big smile “Hello Jackie, hello Sharon, oh hello Uncle Jack”
Sharon immediately asked why she’d just said what she did. Looking very puzzled Lynne replied “Oh I don’t know, for a split second, I thought I saw Jackie’s dad walk in behind you.”
First Christmas without Dad
The first Christmas without a loved one is always the hardest. I was very close to my dad so he was a very special person to me.
I was sitting drinking a coffee and looking out of the window. I couldn't be bothered with all the Christmas decorations that year, but did put up an artificial Christmas tree which I'd bought the Christmas before and decorated it with lots of fairy lights and tinsel. As I sat drinking my coffee and looking at the tree, I began to remember all the lovely times we all had.
I had felt his presence around me at odds times and believed he popped back now and again just to let me know he was ok.
I have believed in the spirit world and life after life for as long as I can remember, so it was a comfort to believe he was still around somewhere, probably with his parents, his family members and his friends that had also passed over. But it was still comforting to feel him around on those odd occasions.
I never called for him in case he couldn't pass to the spirit world properly and become 'earth bound'. I always believed and still do that if spirit moves to their next level in their cycle of birth, death and rebirth, their spirit has feel will to return when ever they want to. I also believe that part of everyone's spirit is always connected to the spirit realm, which is may be where the sixth sense comes from. That's just my personal belief
Anyway I had just finished my coffee and got up to take my cup into the kitchen, when I had a flash of my dad standing in front of me smiling, at the same time the smell of Pine like the smell a Christmas tree, became very strong almost to the point of becoming over powering. Although I was alone in the house and didn't have any witnesses, I am certain it wasn't my imagination. I just said "Thank you dad" and the smell disappeared as quickly as it came.
Cara
My cousin Lynne came to visit with her two daughters. I hadn't felt my dad on this occasion and had just been pottering around tidying the place up for when they arrived. The door bell rang, I opened the door to my visitors and we all went into the lounge. Everyone sat down except Cara, who was about 3 at the time. She just stood by Lynne so I asked her to come and sit in the chair next to me. But she just gave me a funny look and after a few seconds told me not to be silly, there was no room. I didn't take any notice and though maybe she was just in a funny mood and carried on chatting to Lynne. Her other daughter got out her book and staring reading.
After about ten minutes of looking at the 'empty,' chair. Cara came and sat down. "Oh hello" I said "Changed your mind then?" Cara just tutted and rolled up her eyes, then looked at her mum. Lynne then said "Thought you couldn't sit there" and laughed. Again Cara just gave us both a funny look and tutted. So Lynne asked the question again. "Why didn't you want to sit there before?" With that she got up, stood with her hands on her hips and in her funny grown up way replied "Well I couldn't sit here before could I? that man was sitting here". Lynne and I both looked at each other and at the same time said "What man?" "The man that's gone out side" she replied. I asked her where the man was now and she replied, pointing out of the window "Out there, standing looking at the fishes." The 'empty' chair was the one my dad always sat in when he visited and the spot Cara pointed to, out by the fish pound was the exact spot he always stood watching the fish. I don't know why neither Lynne or I had felt his presence on that occasion but it was nice to know he was still around.
