Fort Amherst

Fort Amherst is a great place to visit, not just for the paranormal but for its important history.  It is now looked after mainly by volunteers and is funded by visitors and exhibitions.  They also run their own paranormal nights if you are interested but not in your own group.  Please have a look at their website for all its wonderful history.  Their link is http://www.fortamherst.com

It was quite cold but dry when we arrived but rained quite heavily towards the end of the night

Investigators:- Jackie, Bill, Paul, Donna, Steve, Michelle, Robert, Karl, Dee, Ray, and Chelle.

We arrived at the Fort to be greeted by one of the Fort Amherst staff. A really nice person who made us feel very welcome.  After unpacking our things, having a coffee and getting ourselves sorted.  Our host gave a talk on the History of the fort and a tour of the tunnels.

We then returned to the café area which was our base for the night to collect our equipment and get set up for the evening ahead.

We set up a laptop in one tunnel, a video recorder in a large room and several trigger objects at different parts of the tunnels.

It was an interesting evening where several members picked up on spirit.  The most interesting incident was during one circle, where several members experienced seeing a group of soldiers at the same time.

This is what was picked up on our visit during the night:-

Jackie saw a man in a 3 pointed tricorn hat.  He was a Napoleonic high ranking officer, wearing a uniform and carrying a sword and a group of solders standing about 6ft from him further down the tunnel.

The group of solders were also seen by Steve, Michelle, Chelle and Donna.  Donna also heard funny noises in her ears at the same time, as if everything was under water.  This she said felt very strange as she had also heard the noise in her left ear which she has been deaf in since she was 3 months old.

Steve said he could smell Lavender, which we later found had apparently been reported by other visitors.

Karl saw a figure next to a fence at the bottom of a staircase, in uniform with a white sash from right shoulder to waste about 10ft from where we conducted a circle.

Donna felt spirit by a staircase near a roped off area of the tunnel.

By another staircase Jackie sensed people running up the stairs, who seemed to be in a hurry to get out quickly, she felt one person had fallen over and others were tripping over him.  Paul also felt people on the same stairs and saw someone laid across the very small landing of the stairs as if they had fallen up the staircase.

We got a few off noises –

A noise was heard behind Paul and Chelle while we were asking for some proof of spirit being with us.  At the same time Jackie and Michelle saw a shadow by Donna.

Another time while asking for spirit to show them selves, Paul was touched on the head and Donna heard tapping between Jackie and Michelle.

At another point during the night we heard three loud taps after each time of asking a question.  It could have been coincidence but it was directly after asking spirit a question.  It sounded like someone tapping on one of the barrels.

In one séance we placed a couple of marbles in the centre and asked spirit if they could move them for us.  Two did move slightly.

We also conducted a Planchette session in which we got the year 1747/8, the name Victor who died aged 41, who said he was happy.  Jackie picked up the surname Armstrong.

Unfortunately we didn’t capture any proof on E.P.V. photo or recording but definitely a place we would like to investigate further.
