Chart Powder Mills

Chart Gunpowder Mills are the oldest of their kind in the world. The powders which were made here were used in the battles of Waterloo and Trafalgar.

The first mill in Faversham was one of the first in England and was established in the 1560’s. But was rebuilt when the Government took over 200 years later.

After its closures in the 1930’s in was almost lost as it fell into disrepair until the Faversham Society rescued the mill, restored it and opened it to the public in April 1969. Since then there have been several reports of paranormal activity.

Weather - A very cold, rainy night.

Temperature - Even throughout the Mill.

Investigators - Jackie, Bill, Rose, Terry and Paul.

Although it was a cold night, members of the group did experience cold drafts at various times throughout the evening.

Jackie saw the spirit/ghost of a tubby man with a large tatty Tash. The old fashioned Tash that men had which were bushy, longish and turned up at the edges. He was wearing a dark suit, or clothing similar to a suit, with a gold pocket watch on a chain. She felt he had been someone in charge or of authority. Jackie saw the man next to Rose with his hand on top of Roses hand.

At the same time Rose said she cold feel some ones hand and experienced a cold draft next to her.

Jackie was given the name of Arthur. Then Arthur Weldon, Weedon or Wildon. She couldn't quite get the surname even though she heard it a couple of times.

Jackie then saw the spirit/ghost of a lady standing between Rose and Terry. The lady kept drawing attention to her hair. She had a large scarf tied around her hair and said " You have to have it, it's too dusty". The lady seemed very particular about her hair. Name of Lillian was given.

Jackie then felt spirit next to her, but couldn't see who it was.

Terry felt cold drafts coming and going around his back.

Rose heard someone say "Can't stand the noise". and another voice swearing and saying        "Oh, Oh".

Rose then saw a shadow by the door. She also saw the spirit/ghost of someone sitting  high up as if sitting on the rafter.

Rose then saw the spirit/ghost of a bald headed man with bits of hair at the back of his head, wearing an apron. Then again saw a shadow walking by the door.

Conclusion - It was an interesting and enjoyable evening but very cold. Various members picked up on spirit, but because we were unable to find any evidence on tape or film we can't say it is a haunted building.
