Hall place is a beautiful Grade 1 listed Tudor manor house, which is now managed by Bexley Heritage Trust. The manor house was built in the 1537 for Sir John Champneys, who was once the Lord Mayor of London and as well as a wealthy merchant. Additions and improvements to the building were made in the 17th century by Sir Robert Austin
There have been several reports of ‘ghosts’ residing in the building with stories of workmen leaving half way through a job after ‘seeing’ the ghost of a lady and other stories of a lady jumping from a window.
Bexley Heritage don't allow private hire for paranormal investigations so we had to try and look for paranormal activity during open days. Luckily we chose a fairly quiet day when there weren’t many visitors, but unfortunately we didn’t manage to find any proof of the building being haunted on film, photos or voice recorder.
This was made more disappointing due to the fact that Jackie’s dad, who claimed to be a sceptic worked here in the 1960’s. He had always said to have ‘seen’ the ghost of a lady in the hallway late one evening, but wouldn't admit to it being paranormal when questioned. All he would ever say was “Well I know what I saw and it looked like a white misty lady but there ‘must’ be a logical explanation”. He never did find one though.
