Camera's

We all want to come away from an investigation with some kind of experience but most of us want to try to come away with some kind of evidence. A digital camera is a great way of seeing any result instantly. A camera can pick up things which are not always seen by the naked eye like orbs. The only downside of a digital camera is that even if you catch a full apparition, holding a sign up saying 'I am a real ghost, take my photo' it will not be authenticated as a genuine ghost picture. For any photo to be authenticated, must have a negative that can be checked which is hardly surprising as there are so many people  trying to make a name for themselves with fake pictures.

It is important to make sure that nothing gets in the way of the lens, a strap or even a hair can show as a large streak. Make sure the lens is kept clean and free from dust.

 

 

   

Night vision Camcorders

Video cameras are always a good thing to take along, with night vision you are able to record in darkness. They can record the event as well as be used, in a locked off room where there is supposed activity. Night vision ones are best as they record better in dark although we always use a cobra light to give that extra visibility.

 

 

E.M.F. meters

An Electro magnetic meter (E.M.F.) allows you to pick up any disturbances of the  electro magnetic fields which is believed to occur when there is paranormal activity.

 

 

  

Voice recorders for E.V.P.

Electronic Voice Phenomena (E.M.F’s) are simply unexplained voices, or sounds, which can be picked up using a voice recorder. These can be used while communicating with spirit or left in rooms after asking spirit if they would communicate via them. Voices and noises are often picked up which are unheard by the human ear.

 

 

Beam breakers/Motion detectors

The receiver will sound an alarm when the invisible infa-red beam is broken, so they are good in a locked off room. If the alarm goes off you know something has broken the beam.

 

 

  

Temperature thermometers

These are used to record any temperature changes. It is believed that the temperature drops when there is any spirit/ghost presence.

 

 

Trigger Objects

Trigger objects are placed on a piece of paper and drawn around or placed in a tin lightly sprinkled with talc or salt.  They are viewed at the end of an investigation to see if they have moved by paranormal activity.

 

       

Recording equipment

Infra red c.c.t.v. camera, video and t.v. – these are left in a locked off room where there has been reported paranormal activity.

 

 

First aid

Everyone should carry a first aid kit, not because you'll get attacked by paranormal activity but accidents can happen anywhere.

 

 

 Dowsing rods

These can be used to ask questions and search for activity.

    

 

 Pendulums

As for Dowsing rods.

 

 

Note pads and pencils

Obviously for taking notes, a lot can happen so its always good to take notes as you go along.  Temperatures etc. can be noted to see when and where they change, which could indicate active areas.

 

 

Cobra lights

These are useful in the dark to give extra night vision for recording.

 

 

Red touches

Another obvious requirement. Most investigations are conducted in near to darkness. So they are used for navigation. Red light is the best type so as not to blind people when accidentally shone in someone's face, they won't reflect on shinny objects so less chance of mistaken as an orb and less likely to attract peoples attention.

 

 

Compass

These can be used in a similar way to an E.M.F. meter

 

 

Mobile phone

These should be left off during the investigation but are always handy should an emergency arise and you need outside help.

 

 

2 way radio

If the group splits into two smaller groups you need to be able to communicate.

 

 

Watch

At least one person in the team should have a watch  so that you can note times of temperature readings etc.

 

 

Candles and matches

Although it is unlikely that all your touches and electrics will fail, it is always useful to carry some candles and matches for emergency. They should only be used in an emergency and with extreme caution.

 

 

Spare batteries

Lots of spare batteries as any electrical equipment tends to drain quickly on the investigation
